NAWWAL Tengwar 2009 Editions
In deciding on this particular coin it was a combination of accident and careful consideration. Over a year ago when the first tengwar coins were minted I wanted a true 2-tone like you see now. However at the time, with the detail of this coin, it would have been almost impossible to creat en masse.
When the tree of life coins were originally minted in red on gold and green on gold I didn't know that they were actually enamel on plain metal (with shiny brass cores). When I asked for the original blue on silver, the mint made an 'error.' In the amount of enameling detail for that coin around the leaves there was a special paint-on technique used to block certain areas from being filled with enamel, but it also happened to work on the metal plating - all my blue, green and red on silver coins came out on ... wait for it... 2-tone! Now that accidental technique is being used on the tengwars in the finish I had wanted from the beginning :) The size of these new tengwars is quite large (even bigger than the 2.0" diameter tree of life coins) but it was carefully decided upon. I knew I wanted a large coin and so I (without measuring) used my handmade metal coin technique to make coins of various sizes and carry them around for a while. I picked the one that just felt natural, yet substantial and sent its measurements to the minting company. Because it is not a "standard" size, you can consider this one round, yet technically a "shaped" coin! I know you will enjoy them and I guarantee they are a quality worth showing off to coiner and non-coiner cachers alike!
